About J.A.

All my life, I've had a vivid imagination. Growing up in the rural farm land of California’s central valley, where there wasn’t much for young boy to do, I would spend hours in the backyard, playing with my favorite Captain America action figure, as he thwarted the nefarious plans of his evil arch-enemy, the Red Skull, building his epic adventures in my mind. To this day, I look to them for inspiration, a reminder of my ever-growing imagination.

My stories drew inspiration not only from my surroundings but from the heroes of my parents’ favorite films of the Mexican golden age of cinema. Characters like Pedro Infante’s Pepe el Tore and Mario Moreno’s Cantinflas, underdogs always fighting uphill battles, triumphing against overwhelming odds.

As the son of Mexican immigrants, I learned from a young age that nothing comes without hard work and a drive to succeed. This is the philosophy I live by, what drives me and what inspires me to write.

I love to play in many sandboxes, large and small. Films, one-hour dramas, half-hour comedies, dramadies and web series, I love to write them all. My most recent film Above, currently in pre-production, a small budget indie sci-fi thriller, is slated to shoot in late 2015.
