Djengo Esmer was born in 1977 to Kurdish parents in Kırklareli Province in East Thrace, the European part of Turkey. Due to his father’s political activity promoting Kurdish rights, he and the family were forced to flee from Turkey to Sweden in 1986.
His debut film “Shoo Bre” is an adaptation of a novel by British-Swedish author Douglas Foley. He wrote the screenplay and directed the film, which premiered in February 2012.
Esmer’s international experience spans projects filmed in Sweden, Cuba, Papua New Guinea, Iraq, Turkey, Philippines, Kurdistan, Hungary, Belgium, Switzerland Germany and Syria.
