By Janet Clarke

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE: A young girl volunteers for service in the Philippines, and finds herself embroiled in a world of sex, corruption and dark local legends...which may ultimately prove to be all too real.

SYNOPSIS:

Kate’s an all American girl. Naïve and sheltered, she’s a poly-sci major determined to “do good.” After graduation, Kate volunteers in Port Angeles, Philippines – a city known for trafficking in under-aged prostitutes. Kate’s destination: Pasaga Mission, a religious group dedicated to helping sex workers find a better way of life. Upon arrival, she meets the regulars of Pasaga. Paul - the long term volunteer from Australia. Kurt - a photographer and volunteer from NYC. Daniello - the Mission’s battle-scarred administrator, and manager of the brothel known as Kat’s. The head of the Mission is Eva Flores – an icy head mistress with shady political contacts. Kate’s soon introduced to the girls, and the reality of their life on the streets. As time passes, she comes to realize that morality isn’t quite so black and white, removed from the world of California privilege. Things get complicated. The Mission is pressured by the local church. Money goes missing from the till. And girls in the streets are getting murdered; first by strangulation, then evisceration. Corpses are found – with organs missing. Though in fear of their customers, the girls of Pasaga continue their trade. Economically, they have no other choice. Everyone’s a suspect. Eva and Daniello have their secrets. Kurt’s dating girls on the side. Then there’s Paul, who goes missing late at nights. There’s even talk of an Aswang…a vampiric creature of Filipino legend, known for attacking pregnant women. The paranoia is heightened by the discovery of blood soaked dolls, left beside increasingly mutilated victims. Kate attempts to uncover the truth – about Pasaga, and the dangers that lurk in Port Angeles’ neon streets. Adrift in a world of urban secrets, Kate discovers she’s pregnant. Will she fall victim to an ageless creature, unknown to the Western world? Or find evils much more human – and closer to home than she might suspect? As the hunter becomes the hunted, Kate realizes that she will have to fight - both for her increasingly shaky sense of morality, and the life of her unborn baby.
