After a black high school student befriends a new talented Latina transfer student, they give new life to the stodgy traditional Christmas musical and change racist attitudes in a small town.

SYNOPSIS:

“A New Day” is the story of a talented Latina high school student, Juanita, who unwillingly moves from Philadelphia to a small town where her mother has landed a great new job. Juanita, who has a strict Catholic school background, and has never been on a date, has a difficult time blending in with carefree public school scene. Seeking to fit in and showcase her extraordinary singing skills, she auditions for the immensely popular annual Christmas musical. If she can wrest the cherished role of Mary from a wicked rival who stands between her and the boy they both like, she'll gain the acceptance she seeks and usher in a new day in a stodgy town stuck in archaic tradition.
