THE COMBAT THEATER - THE SERIES

This week on The Combat Theater:

EXT. TORREY PINES GOLF COURSE, SAN DIEGO, CA - MORNING

The SOUND of the THRUSTING and ROTATING SPRINKLERS break the early morning silence.

A thick fog hangs over the Torrey Pines Golf Course on this quiet morning.

A solitary FIGURE can be seen through the fog toting his golf bag across one of the greens.

A hand carefully places a golf ball onto the green. His feet step back and take position a few feet back.

The SWING of the club, followed by the CHUCK of the golf ball are heard.

PATH OF GOLF BALL

The golf ball flies into the fog above the course then drops onto the green, inches from the hole.

The feet of the yet UNKNOWN GOLFER position themselves near the ball. The head of the putter carefully swings towards the ball, knocking it into the hole. The CLANGING of the ball spiraling in the hole resonates.

ABBOTT HASTINGS - (O.S.)

Great shot, sir!

ABBOTT HASTINGS grins widely as he looks at WYATT DODGE.

WYATT DODGE

Morning, officer. Is it ...time?

ABBOTT HASTINGS

Big day ahead of us. Got the command meeting at Miramar at oh-nine hundred followed by a decommissioning ceremony. And, as you heard in your briefing at 0-500, we have an escalation in the Persian Gulf.

Wyatt stuffs his putter into his golf bag, then removes his gloves. He looks at Abbott with a wide grin.

WYATT DODGE

Gonna be a beautiful day in the land of the free.

The two walk away into the fog on the golf course.

EXT. MIRAMAR AIR BASE RUNWAY - DAY

Wyatt quickly walks across the runway towards an awaiting helicopter. He is carrying a travel bag under his left arm.

Abbott chases after him.

ABBOTT HASTINGS

Where ...are we going, sir?

Wyatt turns his head and glances at Abbott.

WYATT DODGE

Cloverdale.

ABBOTT HASTINGS

Clover ...what?

Wyatt continues to walk towards the helicopter. He reaches for the door and swings it open.

The blades on the chopper start to WHIRL and the engine starts to HUM.

Wyatt turns to Abbott.

WYATT DODGE

Cloverdale ...New Mexico. The enemy ...has come ...to us.

Abbott looks back at Wyatt with a stunned, confused look.

EXT. INTERSTATE 10 ARIZONA - DAY

A white car WHIZZES by on the highway.

The three bearded men and four other DARK THUGS emerge from the thorny brush, pause quickly at the roadside, then dash across the highway into the brush on the other side.
