But since I was born too late to join the Beatles (if there was one thing the band lacked, it was a guy on the vibraslap) and goldfish taxidermy wasn't as big a hit as I led all the venture capitalists to believe it would be, the logical next step is to be part of a sketch comedy group. I'm not especially interested in getting discovered for SNL, and I'm too old at this point to take the Scientology approach at places like UCB and the Groundlings, and pay tier-by-tier until I am "clear" to do what I think I should already be allowed to take a shot at. Nothing against those entities mentioned above, not even Scientology (every morning, my bathroom mirror seems to look more and more like L. Ron Hubbard). It's just that life has taught me that I'm not really good at following the advice on the label. I just want to earn my sunscreen and Chipotle money creatively, and would like to make it through my career while asking for as little permission as possible. Don't get me wrong. I'm not edgy or shocking or looking for a response. I just don't enjoy being told what to do by people who don't know me. I'd rather my work just speak for itself, and I simply want to put it out there. Hoping there are some other gifted folk in the area who feel the same. A little about me: I moved to Los Angeles back in October after 15 years in NYC (where I was mostly happy--I came out here for a family obligation, not a grand delusion that I was destined to be a schtah). But I'm serious about my career path and was a steadily employed stage actor and light scribbler back east. I've been on a few auditions and have a few old friends living nearby. But I haven't quite melted into the larger pot yet. To stay active, upbeat and engaged, I started a podcast comprised of improvised material, as well as stuff I just sat down and wrote out (speaking of sitting down, I'm looking for a less squeaky chair, just in case anybody knows a guy). I've also performed all the parts myself so far. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/a-tidy-splash-of-wallace/id960036953... Give the podcast a listen (or listen to the sample I attached below). If you think I'm funny or clever, and that maybe I'd be a good fit with a troupe you've got going--or want to get going--get in touch. I think I'm a pretty good collaborator and have a pretty positive attitude on most days, and tend to be reliable. But I do drive a Saturn. Just want to get that out of the way right now. In case it's a deal breaker. This city is weird. Thanks. Brian
Thanks Brandi. I have looked at the meetups, but most seem to be related to topics I'm not confident that I could really contribute to in a relevant way. I may go ahead and start one as an extension to my post above, but was hoping to attract some people already in the scene. Cheers.

But here's the thing: despite being nothing close to rich and famous, I now have more freedom and flexibility at present than I've had, probably ever (touch wood). I'm going to be in NYC the next three months. After that, if I can ever be of use to you or your friends/colleagues, just tell me when to show up!
