SYNOPSIS:

Based on my novel of the same name, “Island of the Lost Souls” is a fast-paced, darkly comedic crime caper centered around food, family, murder, kidnapping, and buried treasure. Daniel Quinn, self-described Irish-Mexican “mutt,” is a former chef, a server, a musician, and a slacker, who enjoys his easy-going lifestyle. Daniel’s world gets turned upside down when his grandfather, Diego Vargas, the Vice Mayor of Tucson, dies suddenly. Daniel’s grandmother suspects foul play and the culprit is billionaire land developer John Cutlass, who, with Diego Vargas out of the way, can purchase city-owned land that is currently a sanctuary for endangered birds and owls just east of Tucson. Lester Romley is a down-on-his-luck petty scam artist who sees Daniel’s band play one night and overhears Daniel tell his bandmates about coordinates to a possible buried treasure found within the pages of his grandfather’s World War II journal. Daniel’s bandmates hatch a misguided plan to kidnap John Cutlass to make him pay for killing Daniel’s grandfather. When Daniel and his bandmates realize the trouble they are in for kidnapping John Cutlass, Daniel decides to hightail it for Mexico with the kidnapped billionaire in the trunk of his car, and, unbeknownst to Daniel, Lester is right behind him. The fate of all three men will be decided on the Island of the Lost Souls, a mythical, possibly haunted island in the Sea of Cortez, and the pages in Daniel’s grandfather’s journal might reveal the location of WWII Nazi diamonds buried in the Arizona desert.
