SYNOPSIS:

Against the backdrop of the economic collapse in 2008, expecting mother Sarah Hoffman finds her life suddenly changed forever when her husband, Matthew, a soldier in Afghanistan, commits suicide. Because of her husband’s action, Sarah is denied her husband’s death benefits and medical coverage, a single mom barely making enough money to support herself and her child. Her Father-in-Law promises to help her meet her mortgage payments, but he loses his job because of the economy. Soon after, because of the stress of losing his job and pension, and the loss of his only child, he suffers a catastrophic stroke. This causes Sarah to lose her home and move into a neighborhood that is not safe for her or her child but it’s all she can afford. Things become much worse. Her son is diagnosed with Autism. Though the diagnosis is made early, Sarah can’t afford the medical care he desperately needs. Her bank declines her for a loan that would help pay for his needed medical care. After being turned down for the loan, facing eviction and her son being denied the care he needs because she doesn’t have insurance that will cover his medical costs, a friend named Irina, a Russian immigrant, offers her a chance to escape her financial dilemma. Irina is a “Girlfriend Escort”. More than a prostitute, a ‘Girlfriend Escort’ provides a fantasy escape to their clients. Fancy dinners. Weekend getaways. High School Reunions. Sexual fantasy fulfillment. Whatever they need her to be, the ‘Girlfriend’ becomes, at a hefty price. Sarah initially declines because she could never sell her body to anyone. The thought of having sex for money would feel like cheating, especially since she’s only been with one man her entire life and is still mourning her husband’s loss. But when her son’s condition worsens, Sarah enters the dangerous world of prostitution. During all of this Sarah becomes close with a client named David, who also fought in Afghanistan. Against all of her instincts she falls for him but he’s harboring a secret which keeps them as ‘friends’ during all of their time together. With her new income, Sarah is able to afford the therapy her son needs for a chance at a normal life. But there’s always a price to pay. Irina’s face is slashed to pieces by a client. Sarah is viscously raped. It’s at this tumultuous moment that David reveals that he became friends with her husband in Afghanistan, knows why Matthew took his life and informs her of the promise he made to ‘protect her’. And he tells her he has fallen in love with her/ With the dangers of her profession now putting her life in danger, along with falling for David, Sarah must make a decision of whether to stay as an Escort or get out before it’s too late.
