About Eric

As a composer, I have had my works premiered in cities across the United States and abroad, including New York, Minneapolis, Nashville, Cincinnati, Innsbruck (Austria), to name a few. I was winner of the 2006 Emil Beyer NFMC National Composition Competition for Best Song Cycle. I am currently working in the musical theatre genre, and I've just completed a new musical with lyricist Frankie Johnson called The Hills Are Alive! Visit for more details. In addition to musical theatre, I have written music for plays, including The Barber of Seville and Aristophanes' Frogs.

As a music director and conductor, my credits include Chicago (Cortland Repertory Theatre), Closer Than Ever (2010 Phoenicia Festival of the Voice), The Cradle Will Rock (Theater Ten Ten), The Wiz (Harlem Repertory Theatre), The Last Five Years (2009 Piccolo Spoleto Festival), Little Shop of Horrors, The Drowsy Chaperone, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and An Evening with Rodgers and Hammerstein, featuring guest speaker Oscar Hammerstein III. I received a 2009 AUDELCO Award nomination for Oustanding Musical Direction for The Wiz.

As a pianist, I work as an accompanist for individuals, theatres, schools, ballet studios, etc. I regularly work as a freelancer for the Berkeley-Carroll School in Brooklyn, and I work as a duo with singer Daniele Hager, just to name a couple.

In addition to the above, I have taught music theory and ear training to undergraduate classical, jazz and musical theatre majors, and I currently co-teach a Survey of Musical Theatre course at the Berkeley-Carroll School. I have worked on a variety of projects as arranger/producer as well, including Going Green!, an educational album for children (available nationwide and at ).

I hold a Masters Degree in Music from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Bachelors Degree in Music from Vanderbilt University and a diploma with concentration in piano from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
