"I’ve known Jim for several years and can say without reservation that his energy and enthusiasm for film directing/filmmaking and screenwriting is infectious. His work is better than much of what comes out of Hollywood these days. He has a unique style which is a modern variation of classic directing/filmmaking. He is self-taught and has an innate filmmaking ability. It’s almost as if he was born to do this. If Jim lived in L.A. he would be a successful director today. Notwithstanding that, it’s my opinion that he will be a successful filmmaker as soon as the right person sees his work. Once he’s discovered, the world will embrace his work."
- Mr. JOHN MICHAELS
Filmmaker: RALPH TALK, HIRE A LIAR, IT'S BEEN DONE and
AZTEC TWO STEP 15TH ANNIVERSARY
Director: 100+ commercials including DOVE, FOXWOODS, GILLETTE and many more.
"Jim is the most talented unknown I've ever met. His work is as close to perfect as it gets. Each frame is given so much thought that it's only a matter of time until we see his name on a commercial blockbuster. The biggest mistake you can make on your next project is by NOT hiring him."
James "Jim" W. Hawk was born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania. He is of German, Irish, Scottish and Native American (Seneca) decent. At the age of three, he was moved to Cleveland, Ohio. In 1972, he pursued a career in industrial sales and marketing with a Fortune 500 company which resulted in he and his wife being relocate to Rochester, New York, South Bend, Indiana and finally, New Haven, Connecticut.
Jim's first independent film project was a two hour and four part documentary called The Old School Roadster on a Budget featuring Larry, a local car guy who built a Roadster in his garage. It was aired on television stations throughout Connecticut. The next project was a commercial for Doritos. The winner of the contest would have their entry shown during the Super Bowl. He didn't win, but he made an outstanding creative work nonetheless. Having these under his belt, he needed the next greater challenge...he wanted to make a short scripted movie.
Jim wrote, produced and directed Alpha To Omega: Part 4 with limited resources, but plenty of ingenuity. He wanted to keep it simple so he developed a story line and script featuring the last man on Earth. After lots of work and some luck, it all came together as his first scripted short film.
Since that time, he has produced, written and directed several short films, documentaries, music videos, high end wedding videos and industrial presentations. He has also worked for the Connecticut Film Industry Training Program for two years as an Associate Producer and Director of the "behind the scenes" film of their short film. He has been interviewed on television regarding the making of one of his short films. He has had several minor acting parts in independent films. He has taken filmmaking classes at Quinnipiac University. He has had his films shown at film festivals and on local television.
He is always either planning or searching for his next greater challenge.
