WydeEyedChylde aka Jeremy Bell was born in 1986 in Hamilton, MT. From a young age, he was exposed to all types of music. His mother, an accordion-playing teacher, would leave the house shaking with the sounds of old soul and blues musicians such as; Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Bill Withers, Muddy Waters, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Eric Clapton. These artists struck a major chord with the young boy, who had never heard music so deeply emotional and pure.
His father, a guitarist, pianist, and ensemble-choir member showed him another genre of music that would resonate very strongly with him. Classic-rock acts such as; The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and The Doors all had a peculiar power over the boy. It was through these songs he learned how to decipher composition in music. He learned the role of harmonies, bridges, and how each fraction of time within a song was made up of equally smaller pieces that played a key part in the holistic song as a work of music.
WydeEyedChylde lived music. He would spend a fair amount of time moving around as a child, and in these moments, he saw how music and family could make you feel at home no matter where you were. It was then that he began writing poetry, still one of his favorite things to do. He appreciated how music could get him going in the morning, and help put him to sleep at night. This was around the time Jeremy began playing the piano, which he still plays today.
Through the years of being a four-sport athlete and honor student, Jeremy always made time for music. He would record his family and friends greatest-hits tapes of their favorite artists, sometimes showing them songs they had never heard; proof again that he possessed the intangible skill of picking music that uniquely matched the various tastes of others.
When he was seven years old, his mother found a garbage bag of cassette-tapes hidden in the closet of his room. When she saw the explicit lyrics stickers, she threw them all away in front of him. These cassettes held significant value to WydeEyedChylde. His cousin, who was more like his big brother, had given this bag of tapes to him as he left from a vacation in Seattle to see family. Inside the bag were tapes such as; Eric B and Rakim, Run DMC, Outkast, 2Pac, B.I.G, Wu-Tang-Clan, NWA, Too $hort, Celly Cell, Spice-1, UGK, Geto Boys, The Beastie Boys, and Big L.
These artists shaped a young WydeEyedChylde into a knowledgeable hip-hop advocate. No matter where he went, his boombox was on full blast with backup batteries. The destruction of his tape collection forced Jeremy to re-examine how to find good music.
By third grade, WydeEyedChylde was an avid reader and read his mother's Rolling Stone magazine from cover to cover the day it arrived. When he stumbled upon an advertisement for BMG Music telling him he could order seven CD's a month, he was hooked. He immediately began saving money he earned from weekend shoveling sessions to pay for his new venture. Around this time Jeremy began playing the drums which he still plays today.
At present, WydeEyedChylde's obsession with music is stronger than ever. He saved money for two years to build a studio piece-by-piece, gave up partying to spend his weekends with the craft of music, taught himself to play guitar, and still found time to attend school in pursuit of an Information Technology degree.
Jeremy has been programming beats and producing music for three years. He has been working with Photoshop and aspects of design for over five years. He has been engineering and mixing/mastering music for over two years. Jeremy has written several children's books and one novel. During a program called Americorps, he was the recipient of The President's Award for Volunteer Service and a Bronze Congressional Medal while teaching second and third grade Math and English to underprivileged children in North Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was here where he gained a better perspective of the genre of music that had strongly influenced his life.
Music is his passion, hip-hop is his voice.
