SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND
By Matthew St. Amand

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

Thirty years after starring in a pair of hit horror movies, washed-up actor Hal Dagon has made the long fall into obscurity and has only one request of his one friend: Hal needs help reconnecting with his estranged daughter.

SYNOPSIS:

Single Location script: Hal Dagon, 53, is a washed-up actor who enjoyed fleeting fame in the early 1980s after starring in a couple surprise hit horror movies. During the intervening years, the Hollywood lifestyle got the better of him and Hal's now living in a coldwater flat. His only company is his landlord's 23 year old nephew, Vinnie, who tries to convince Hal to make a comeback. In the meantime, Vinnie contents himself with selling Hal's personal effects online to, what Vinnie calls, the "nostalgia market". After years of drugs, alcohol and ego, Hal drifts in and out of reality. He's consumed by memory, sometimes acting out scenes from his old movie roles as though they are real life. He doesn't care that Vinnie is selling his old, crummy running shoes and sweat pants online, so long as Vinnie continues coming by with a few groceries and the odd bottle of vodka. Hal's only request is that Vinnie use "that Internet thing" to help find Hal's estranged daughter, with whom Hal lost contact years before. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a tragicomedy about how people live with their life-choices, and how the power of memory -- or, what we think we remember -- overwhelms the present. Pitiful as Hal has become, there is humour to be found in how he perseveres and pieces together his current existence.
