PEOPLE WATCHING

PEOPLE WATCHING
By Joseph Andrew Killeen

GENRE: Other, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Hidden camera comedy show where commentators read strangers on the street, to juxtapose initial impressions with the reality of who people are.

SYNOPSIS:

According to Wikipedia, “People watching or crowd watching is the act of observing people and their interactions, usually without their knowledge. It involves picking up on idiosyncrasies to try to guess at another person's story. This includes speech in action, relationship interactions, body language, expressions, clothing and activities. Eavesdropping may accompany the activity, though is not required. For some people it is considered a hobby, but for many others it is a subconscious activity they partake in every day without even realizing.

Proper people watching should follow society’s expectation of privacy and be ethical, without degrading the subjects. The legislation concerning non-consensual photography of people varies between countries, and should also be observed.”

The intent of this lighthearted half hour, hidden camera show is not to degrade the subjects but to simply show them to the world for who they are; it will give many people their “fifteen minutes of fame” by simply being seen out and about and noticed for how they dress, walk, act etc..

Along with the viewing audience at home, there will be a panel of studio guests including but not limited to comedians, actors, celebrities and other outspoken, opinionated everyday people who will provide commentary as they “people watch” through cameras in Times Square.

People Watching will not simply exist to judge people without figuring out who they actually are, so to bring the show full circle, a roving host will talk to the specific people that create the most commentary from the studio guests. This will allow for the people who are watched to eventually realize that they are on T.V. and agree to being on the show; as well as cement the core concept of “People Watching” which is that while we all make assumptions about people, most of the time, what’s inside the book is much deeper than what the cover can convey. “Don't judge a book by its cover until you’ve read the book.”

People Watching will be both a fun and meaningful, intellectual and entertaining social experiment with endless potential to exhibit and enlighten people.
