JOSH KOTCHEFF

Josh Kotcheff is an award winning, English/Canadian writer and filmmaker with credits in theatre, film and TV on both sides of the Atlantic. Currently he has a feature in production, three in development and has recently completed his first novel.

Josh was a writer for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, a top-rated US network show. e His episode, Fallacy, was nominated for a GLAAD award and won a Shine Award. His episode, Hooked, aired in ‘sweeps week’ and was received with great acclaim. His episode, Retro, won a Sentinel Award. He subsequently sold a pilot to Shaw Media in Canada and has another one in development with Amuse Entertainment.

However, he has also had an extensive feature career, developing projects with: Lynda La Plante (Prime Suspect,) the BBC, Wall to Wall Television, Jonathan Prince (The Cleaner,) John Heyman (A Passage to India,) World Productions, Craig Baumgarten (Universal Soldier,) Renaissance Pictures, Dan Rissner (Gone, Baby, Gone) Franz Hermann, Film Fanatics, Simon Chinn (Searching for Sugarman) amongst many others. He has completed many rewrites, including a production polish on Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, starring Michael Douglas, and on Universal Soldier V.

Josh began his career in theater. He directed six productions with Bare Bones Theatre Group, winning prizes in both the Canterbury and Brighton Theatre Festivals. He then joined The Wrestling School Theatre Company, working with internationally renowned playwright Howard Barker on two nationally touring productions, Victory and The Europeans.

During this time, Josh also worked in British TV as a researcher and producer and in film production as an assistant director on commercials, videos, and features both in the UK and the US. This inspired him to make his own films. He was commissioned by the Hackney Arts Festival to make a film loop as part of an installation with artist, Rob Flint. The two completed several other similar projects. He also made a documentary Dodgy Roger about a pathological liar and wrote and directed a short film, Angel, which was later accepted for the Hollywood film festival.

Currently, Josh has Alien Bounty, directed by John Azpilicueta, in post-production, drama, Taylor/Christopher, in development with Michael Mooleedhar (Green Days by the River) attached to helm, thriller Jackie 2.0, with Genesis Lynea (HBO’s The Baby) attached to play the lead and series DMAT 1 with Barbara De Fina (Goodfellas) producing. He is also due to make his directorial debut later this year with his script A Dog’s Life, Debbie Klaar (American Wisper) producing and has recently completed his first novel, .
