Will Kimsey

Los Angeles native Will Kimsey began playing the piano at the age of 5 by learning the theme to the movie “Exodus” entitled “This Land is Mine”. Although he only learned the first four measures of the song, Will took an immediate liking to the instrument. Classically trained he progressed to more contemporary styles of music. A musician of over 30 years, Will is a Composer, Arranger, and Performer, who realized at age 15 he was meant to be a musician.
After auditioning in 1984 playing Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon in the Sky” for admittance to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Will graduated in 1987 with a Bachelors Degree in Professional Music. His educational focus was in Composition, Arranging and Performance. He completed his studies in 3 years instead of the traditional 4 years. After Berklee, Will has taken the time to further his craft by taking courses in Audio Engineering, with the intent of better understanding the industry as a whole.
He can be seen as Background Talent in some of the following shows: “The Shield”, “Heroes”, “Ugly Betty”, “ER” and “The Bernie Mac Show”, just to name a few. Over the last several years Will has revisited his roots as a church musician and Director of Music. There he has learned that through Gospel music come many great songs. His musical influences not only include Gospel greats like Walter Hawkins and Andrae Crouch, but Traditional and Contemporary Jazz artists including Miles Davies, Thelonious Monk, and The Yellow Jackets. Will is also influenced by R & B artists Prince, Stevie Wonder, and George Duke.
Both in the past and currently, Will Kimsey has predominantly worked with other Independent artists like himself, embracing the concept of free expression of music without restrictions. His current solo project ‘Le Musique’, released earlier in 2013, features both instrumental and vocal tracks featuring his wife and partner, songwriter/vocalist Nicole Gentry-Kimsey. ‘Le Musique’ can be heard at ReverbNation.
