GENRE: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
LOGLINE: Think outside the box and you might just discover what truly lies inside it.

SYNOPSIS:

The short is a combination of live action and animation, telling the story of father and son who make a bond that will have an impact on their lives forever. Together Derek and Adam travel in to a magical animated world built around memories, imagination, emotions and art. In the animation, the showing of the creative process of making art takes place as a sub plot whilst it moves the main plot of the characters at the same time. The aim is to use a variation of art styles/techniques within the sequence to help distinguish the differences in characters moods, feelings and perspectives. Each character brings their own style of art in creating the animated world. Adam's style is based on the earlier work of Wassily Kandinsky known for its use of bright colours and child like perspective. Derek's style is based on the sketches of Vincent Van Gogh. This artist has been selected due to his contrasts of works ranging from detailed realism of harsh sketches to his warped take on reality in other works. Derek's sketches represent his feelings of emptiness and confusion. Derek's father's work are watercolours painted again, by Van Gogh. This shows the contrast of Derek and his father.
