A freelance theatre director, instructor, and actor, Emily Rollie has acted in and directed productions across the United States, including locations in Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, New York, California, and Missouri. She currently serves as artistic director for Independent Actors Theatre, a "purposefully nomadic" theatre company in Columbia, MO, that produces edgy, new works in nontraditional spaces. She has worked on classical as well as new works and in a diverse array of settings from professional and regional theatre to academic and community theatre.
In addition to a lively professional artistic career, Emily is also a scholar and is currently completing her dissertation in theatre at the University of Missouri. There, she teaches courses such as Acting for Non-Majors, Introduction to Performance Studies, Theatre History, and Directing, and serves as the associate director of the Troubling Violence Performance Project, a group dedicated to opening lines of communication about issues of relationship violence through the performance of personal narratives, as well as the assistant director/actor/facilitator for the MU Interactive Theatre Troupe. Emily also holds a Master's degree in theatre production, with an emphasis in direction, from Central Washington University
