Paul Tompkins is a 30+ year veteran of the motion picture, TV, & advertising industries.
1975-1980. After college, Paul became a marketing executive and chief salesman of a Denver based cinema-advertising enterprise. Paul then successfully built a chain of movie theaters. His company, Great Western Entertainment, was one of the first to present and promote the "dollar movies." Along with his holdings in Colorado were the
Will Rogers and May Theaters in Oklahoma City.
1980-2000. His next 20 years were spent in Hollywood. During that time Paul trained and operated alongside many notable directors and producers including Francis Ford Coppola, John Frankenheimer, Joel Schumacher, James Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd, and Roger Corman. His various positions gave him hands-on experience in the production of major Hollywood movies and smaller films made on a tight budget as well as television series.
Since 1982 he has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild & AFTRA unions. He frequently appeared in lead or supporting roles on national commercials, soap operas, and prime time television shows. Among his many credits are "L. A. Law," "Dallas," "Murder She Wrote," "Matlock," "Starman," "Hunter," "Star Trek: The Next Generation,"
"General Hospital," "Days of Our Lives," “Santa Barbara” and movies made for television such as "Acceptable Risks," “No Man’s Land” and HBO’s "By Dawn’s Early Light."
He studied with premiere Hollywood screenwriting instructors Robert McKee, John Truby, Michael Hauge, and Syd Field. Paul has authored or collaborated on over a dozen feature screenplays. One of the top five talent agencies in the world, International Creative Management (ICM), has represented him and negotiated deals on his behalf.
Paul has always been dedicated to independent filmmaking. He was a member of the LA branch of the Independent Feature Project and Scriptwriters Network. Along with his BA degree in English and Theater, he has done graduate studies at UCLA, and received the highest-level Writer/Producer/Director degree from the Hollywood Film Institute
2000-Present. Paul returned to Oklahoma in 2000. In 2003, he founded the motion picture company CrazyFish Films and distribution enterprise VisionPix. He is also president of the movie, TV, & new media development company Redbud Entertainment.
On a freelance basis, Paul writes, produces, and directs television commercials. In addition, he teaches screen writing and production, providing assistance, consultation, and mentoring to individuals on their personal projects and screenplays.
In 2006, Paul wrote, produced, and directed the award winning short "Hollywood Photos of Katie Mills." Among other notable film festivals the picture was screened around the world through The Manhattan Short Film Festival.
