About Lisa

Born and bred in Reading, Lisa Pipkin’s musical career began on the piano aged eight, composing her first piano pieces aged only ten.

At Maiden Erlegh she began learning the clarinet, going on to play principal with many of the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust ensembles, including the National Youth Orchestra, Concert Band and leading the clarinet choir. With the trust she has played at stunning venues, such as St Georges Chapel in Windsor Castle, Douai Abby, St Nicolas Church and on tour in France and Poland. Through Maestros she also won the Robina Dallmeyer award in 2009, and the Berkshire Maestros Earley Charity Music award, and has assisted in the musical direction of youth productions at Our Lady of Peace School and with the Reading Youth Theatre.

Being such an active performer encouraged Lisa to start composing, leading to her eventual decision to pursue composition as a career. In 2009 she did work experience with the Band of the Royal Logistics Corps, and more recently has attended workshops and courses with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble Midvest, the Mavron Quartet and members of BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Lisa is currently in her fourth year studying composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, with Mark Boden, John Hardy and Peter Reynolds. Her particular interest in music for media has resulted in her being a co-founder of Tonal Shift Studios, a rising company that creates original composition and sound design. They have had lots of experience writing to film, tv, adverts for cinema, video games, computer games and photography. This upcoming company produces varied original music for all medias.
