SYNOPSIS:

This is a seven minute animated film which draws on the rich Celtic tradition of magical Selkies.Stories of the Selkies were told by fishing communities from the Dingle Peninsular in Ireland right round to Barra in the Outer Hebrides and as far as the Orkneys and Shetland Islands.These strange, magical creatures had the power to captivate humans. Their stories were always about love and often tragic.In this tale, a sad fisherman recalls how he was captivated by the daughter of the Selkie king. She gives herself to him and they live happily together for seven years, but she secretly yearns to return to her world under the sea.One moonlit night she discovers her hidden Selkie seal skin and abandons her husband and their three children.The heartbroken man searches for her but to no avail. Sadly he accepts she is gone and does his best to raise their three children.After seven years have passed, the Selkie Princess returns to claim her children - for they are Selkies too.The father's heart is broken once again as he watches his beloved children turn into seals and disappear beneath the waves.He returns to the sea to fish and finds a sealskin in his net. Placing the skin around his shoulders, he dives into the sea to find his family.
