GENRE: Historical, Drama
LOGLINE:

A Jewish doctor escapes Nazi Germany after formulating a dietary cure for degenerative diseases, then after testifying before the US Senate, he’s ostracized by the medical community and quietly murdered to keep him from publishing his diet-based regimen that cures cancer without the use of pharmaceuticals.

SYNOPSIS:

By attempting to cure a patient's migraine by using his own diet, Dr. Max Gerson inadvertently cures lupus and tuberculosis, and is later able to cure cancer by refining the diet. Max takes a business trip to Austria at the onset of World War II, but his wife and three daughters don’t have the required exit visas to leave Germany and can’t go with him.

Dr. Gerson’s train is stopped at the German border and all of the Jewish passengers are extracted from the train, except for him. Annoyed by his enthusiasm to explain his work, an SS Storm Trooper fails to check his passport, which spares his life and enables him to escape.

While Dr. Gerson establishes a treatment ward in Vienna, his wife, Gretchen, struggles to obtain the necessary exit papers for herself and their three daughters. One thing is certain though, the Nazis need physicians and want to extradite Dr. Gerson back to Germany.

Dr. Gerson is reunited with his family after Gretchen calls in favors to obtain the exit papers and escape Germany, but the threat of a Nazi invasion permeates Austria. When an influential American family requests Dr. Gerson travel to New York, the Gerson’s use the opportunity to immigrate to the United States.

After Dr. Gerson is offered a ward at Gotham Hospital in New York to perform clinical trials for his dietary cure to cancer, his protocols are sabotaged from someone on the inside. One of his patients dies, a 16-year-old boy, after his parents are convinced that traditional treatments are the only way to save their son, even though he showed substantial improvement with the diet.

Dr. Gerson testifies before the US Senate as they consider a $100 million bill for cancer research, but the American Cancer Society and establishment practitioners block the bill. Gerson’s amazing testimony is redacted from the record. Dr. Gerson’s therapy is put on the blacklist of questionable, "Unproven Therapies" by the American Cancer Society.

A popular talk-show host airs a segment about the success of Gerson’s testimony at the hearings, but is fired for doing so. Dr. Gerson’s New York medical license is suspended for self-promotion, which was contrary to the State ethical guidelines.

Negative articles are published about the Gerson therapy and Dr. Gerson is ostracized by the medical community as a quack. Apparently, there is no money in curing cancer patients using available scientific knowledge of nutritional health.

Nonetheless, Dr. Gerson manages to establish a sanatorium in upstate New York with some of his protégés to treat terminal cancer patients who have exhausted all other treatment options. He methodically records the success of his dietary regimen and therapy, but patient case files go missing and Dr. Gerson suspects his new secretary may have split loyalties. But, even when he is watching her, case files still go missing and he can’t figure out who is doing it.

An old adversary from Germany steps into the situation and just prior to the publication of his Gerson Therapy book and the manuscript is stolen. Max fires his secretary suspecting her of stealing it, not knowing that she had been placing arsenic in his daily coffee him. The arsenic still makes it to his coffee and more case files go missing, even after she’s gone. Someone is fixed on destroying him.

Max persists in his work, even though he is getting sicker and sicker. He finishes the book for the second time, but succumbs to the arsenic, leaving the responsibility to promulgate his work with his daughter, Charlotte.

They managed to destroy him, but not before the truth was revealed.
