I was born and raised in Kansas City, but took off for LA just as soon as I graduated college. I broke into "the industry" by landing a job as with Beantown Productions, who specializes in network promotion. (Example: "Next on King of The Hill...!)
I spent a couple of years learning the ropes at Beantown, and have been working in network promotions ever since. I am a "Promo Preditor", which is a very quick way of saying, that I am the writer, producer, editor, graphics coordinator, sound designer and finisher for my spots. I create the whole sh'bang from concept to completion.
One time on a plane back to LA, I sat next to a filmmaker. We exchanged verbal resumes and he scoffingly asked, "What do you have against story-telling?" Without a moment of hesitation I replied, "Nothing, I just do it a whole lot faster than you." I've always been proud of that quick comeback. I love doing promos and trailers. It's telling just enough of the story to pique interest, hold attention and be memorable enough to get viewers to set the record button on the DVR.
Despite what my "single-serving friend" (awesome, if you get that reference) on the plane believed, it is a craft, and it is one that I have honed well.
I'm currently in Kansas City, but I pack light and travel well.
