SYNOPSIS:

It is 1944 and Sarah, an evacuee, has lost both parents in the Blitz. She is alone late one evening on her Grandfathers motor boat in the Hamble River. A German intruder, Klaus arrives, and holds Sarah at gunpoint. Shortly afterwards, Sarah’s Grandfather Harry returns from a hospital appointment and the two are held hostage.

Klaus mysteriously intends to take the boat into the English Channel. With his granddaughter’s life under threat, Harry has to break into a fuel station to obtain rationed fuel. They set off and are intercepted by a patrol boat. Harry is a friend of the Patrol boat captain, who has a son Billy. Billy has gained his wings as a fighter pilot and is to date Sarah, on her return. The patrol boat departs.

They head into the channel and successfully negotiate the intense danger of a minefield. Klaus signals out and a U-Boat surfaces. It is spotted by a destroyer and dives.

In the commotion Harry shoots Klaus in the shoulder and they speed out of danger. Sarah attends to the wounded Klaus as he awaits a military medical vehicle and is escorted away. The scene closes with the devastating news that Harry has a terminal illness.
