GENRE: Sci-fi, Romance
LOGLINE:

When a global incident spirals out of control, the owner of a remote gas station convinces a doomsday prepper to help him prepare his station for nuclear war and they find they're not prepared for love.

SYNOPSIS:

Casper Crabb, owner of a gas station in the middle of the desert, gouges his customers to build up savings so he can retire, alone, desiring to see the wonders of the world, unburdened by anyone else's needs. Isolated, his inability to connect leads to a string of regular customers who complicate his life.

Then, a global incident between the U.S. and Russia plunges the world into a harrowing standoff that threatens nuclear war. As Casper goes on with his life, assuming he's safe in the desert, Penny Brinkman, a doomsday prepper, seeks a deal on pallets of bottled water. After chasing her off with his exorbitant prices, she warns him that his station is unprepared for the coming "end of the world." Then an incoming-missile alert that turns out to be a false alarm cuts off all communication and leads a panicked vacationing family to rob Casper's station. Vulnerable and exposed, he is impelled to make a deal with Penny to help him prep the station.

As Penny evaluates his needs and coaches him on what to do to be prepared for nuclear war, Casper finds himself in need of an underground bunker to protect from radiation. Attracted to Penny, he asks if she would share her bunker. She refuses, turned off by Casper's selfishness and wanting to hunker down without personal complications. This attraction leads to flirtation between them, as Casper attempts to get the extremely pragmatic Penny to appreciate the wonders of the world. She rejects this, believing these wonders are doomed to be destroyed. After Penny shows him how to survive in the desert, around the campfire after a couple of beers, Casper reveals the personal reasons why he's so isolated, showing real vulnerability, and they have sex.

With Penny dismissing their night of passion as nothing, rejecting his romantic intentions, she still agrees to finish helping him prep because of their agreement. Casper asks her to take one of his walkie-talkies and be part of his prepping network. She agrees only if he can give the rest of his walkies away first. Hoping to win her heart, he connects with his regulars and gives them walkies one by one.

When Penny's water arrives, Casper gives her his last walkie, they have the best night of their lives together and make love again. The next day Penny insists on Casper bunkering down with her as a couple. As their about to collect what he needs to join her, the two superpowers call a truce bringing the world back from the brink. Casper insists on getting back to his life, including his desire to be by himself, and he breaks things off with her. Then, after tensions were seeming to diminish, nuclear war occurs.

Penny, recognizing how emotionally unprepared she is, runs back to her bunker as Casper, needing the human connection, begs her to stay. With Casper surviving on his own, he attempts to get Penny out of her bunker to talk. One day, as he watches the road, numerous survivors come upon his station. Now a different person, he does not hesitate to provide for them in his newly prepped station. Knowing he must protect these survivors from fallout, he goes to Penny and pleads with her to take the survivors in. As Casper is about to give up, Penny emerges and faces him. After a tense moment, Penny grabs Casper and kisses him, reigniting their love for each other.

I like the premise, but this Logline is a very long run-on sentence. One could get winded reading it aloud.

Thanks for the tip. How would you break it up?
