JUMPING THE SHARK (PILOT)

JUMPING THE SHARK (PILOT)
By Chris Mueller

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A secondary character in a long-running TV show awakens to discover he’s trapped in a very tropey sitcom world. When a guest actor threatens to become a permanent member of the cast, our hero has but one choice – he must kill Ted McGinley.

SYNOPSIS:

Imagine if the loveable doofus best friend character – a Patton Oswalt type – becomes self-ware and realizes he’s stuck in a shitty television show.

Worse, it’s a sitcom that’s been on the air too long and is ready to ‘jump the shark’. That point where a show peaks, leading to a ratings decline and inevitable cancellation.

And POOF! No more Patton.

But our hero isn’t as dumb as the character he portrays. He understands the rules of this universe, and they can be manipulated. He can prevent the show from Jumping the Shark.

At least long enough to get what every minor character wants… a spinoff.

______________________

Jumping the Shark is a sitcom with dark tones, disguised as a Chuck Lorre-style multi-cam. It is ideally suited for the cable or online networks. Or a ballsy major.
