Travis Shortt, founder of ASPYR Communications (www.aspyrcommunications.com), began his career in broadcasting working with both WDIC and WAXM radio as an on-air personality. After four years he worked his way into sales while simultaneously pursuing his college degree. While in college he worked for the Department of Media Studies and began learning video production. He received his degree in Communication from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
In 1993 he met and formed a business relationship with Charlie McCracken. In 1995 both Travis and Charlie were employed by the same firm to handle marketing/public relations and creative production respectively. In 1997 they formed their own firm, Digital Edge Productions, which evolved into ADVANTURE Media in 2001.
In 2003, Travis and Charlie again embarked on another venture. Liquidating their shares in ADVANTURE they launched Black River Media and Black River Films to pursue their own projects. From 2003 until 2007 Travis provided strategic publicity for Black River’s film projects and continued to provide media consulting and production services to a variety of clients. In 2007, to assist another friend, Travis stepped away from Black River and assumed a position as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for an acute care hospital in need of re-branding and imaging. Travis returned to Black River in 2009 and helped facilitate the launch of several new service-lines and alliances with partner firms.
By 2010 Travis began laying the groundwork for a re-branding of Black River and the services they provided. That groundwork is now ASPYR Communications- one of the leading communication, branding, imaging, and public relations firm on the market. With ASPYR Travis works with all clients on their positioning, language, imaging, and brand ownership.
