About Michael

Immersed in film forever, Michael was awarded “Outstanding Young Director” for his short film “Twister” at the age of 16. Part of the team at Phenomenon Filmworks, he wrote and directed the studio’s first short film THE BACKPACK (2012). Coming later this year are two features: a psychological horror film simply called FIVE, featuring Anthony Ma (“Elevator” and TV’s “Scandal,” “Shameless,” and “The Mentalist), and the thriller TURNER RISK, featuring Nick Fink (“Glee” and “Justified”). In addition to intensive post-production work, several new projects are currently in development.

In addition to his work as a film director, Michael has taught budding young filmmakers the art of film production. The result is an amazing 112 short films shot by high school students he supervised and helped prepare for film school. Many of those film students continued their path to film now work in the industry.

Over the years Michael mastered his own skills as a film editor, DP, and screenwriter, with the guidance of Syd Field. He is a collaborator on set and in post, working with actors, composers, technicians, and crew to maximize each film’s potential.

FIVE (Currently in Post-Production) (2018 - 2019)
Film by Phenomenon Filmworks (Horror and Thriller) Writer/DIrector Cameron is a likable but relatively aimless young man with big plans for his future, starting with a proposal for his long-time girlfriend Kate. When a close friend tells Cameron that Kate has been cheating on him, Cameron falls into a murderous plan to secure his relationship with Kate. But his choices spin his life of control, leading to more murder and, eventually, madness.
TURNER RISK (2018)
Film by PhenomenonFilmworks (Drama) Editor/Writer/Director Turner Risk, a longtime victim of bullying, decides one day to clear out all the negatives and effectively reboot his world. As his deadly plan becomes clear, his only friend, Robbie Cruz, jobless and struggling to make ends meet, teams up with his new companion Seth and high school nemesis Conner to stop Turner. But first they have to find him - which begins their longest journey together: a day of sudden tragedies and, ultimately, of unexpected revelations.
