Every time I get an opportunity to see my performance, I'm reminded on how much I need to grow in my craft before I become the actor I want to be. What are my long term goals? To be a twentieth the actor that Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep are. In the short term, I'll settle for someone saying, "Wow, that was really great" or "that really moved me."
I had a partial success recently to achieving my short term goal. I was in a play, Stage IV, where I die on stage near the end of Act I (Don't worry, I come back as my younger self in Act II). After the play, the mother of the playwright told me that she and the two women next to her cried when I died. For that comment, I am grateful. Of course, before I get too full of myself, I need to remind myself that my performance in this situation is only a tiny step on the road I have chosen.
