Alvaro Martin Blanco (Bilbao 1978) starts his studies at Fine Arts Faculty at the University of the Basque Country. He studies painting, sculpture and photography. At that time he also makes some projects as filmmaker.
In 2002 he graduates with honors for the direction of the short film “Paisaje desde una ventana” with the collaboration of Bilbao Arte Foundation.
During the following years he lives in England, Ireland and Italy; where he works in different fields and keeps on making photography.
In 2005 he runs a Photography Seminar at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di CineCitta – Rome, whose course tutor is the cinematographer Giuseppe Rotunno.
In 2006 he is accepted at the ECAM (Film School of Madrid – Spain) in the Photography specialty and he also receives a grant for Artistic Studies Widening.
During the next three years he alternates his studies in ECAM with several media productions. Meanwhile, he goes on with his career as photographer and makes some individual and collective photography exhibitions as “Eskerraldea” or “On the Road”.
In 2009 he obtains a diploma at the ECAM being nominated as Best Cinematographer in the Kodak film School Competition in Clermont Ferrand for the project “Estolcomo” (35mm).
That year he stars making theater lighting designs with the play “Good Sex, Good day” and an adaptation of “La Casa de Bernarda Alba” by Federico García Lorca.
The following years he is involved in productions for which he was awarded in international festivals for his work as Director of Photography: Hollywood, Bulgaria and Spain.
He participates in projects wich take part in such prestigious festivals as Cannes, Seattle, Clermont Ferrand or San Sebastian.
Currently he resides in Los Angeles, where he continues his career as Director of Photography on an international basis, developing commercial, fiction and television contents.
