Privileged co-ed from Grosse Pointe, MI, degenerates into vagrancy in the U.S. southwest, living by her looks and wits as she fends off drug dealers, thieves, and rapists. 

SYNOPSIS:

It’s 2:00 AM and I hear gunshots outside the bus station window under which I sleep for this night.

“The Preppy Vagrancy” is a “riches to rags”, fem-centric memoir tracing the travels and travails of me, a girl from preppy Grosse Pointe, MI as I innocently visit a boyfirend in Phoenix, AZ only to end up homeless and vagrant in the U.S. southwest. In the process, I ward off drug dealers, car thieves (boyfriend and his "roommates", and would-be rapists as i sleep in bus stations, pick-up, strangers' sofas and dorm lobbies. I was a vagrant with a string of pearls and a college degree. I worked in clubs and never asked for money. After writing out graduate school applications on cocktail napkins, I end up with a scholarship to graduate program at American University in Washington, D.C..
