SYNOPSIS:

SARA and LENNIE REID are a wealthy, bored, bickering couple, trapped in a loveless marriage. Lennie has a failing medical practice and a seriousdrinking problem. Sara, a bestselling novelist, is a passionless woman who has not made love to her husband in over a year. While driving to BITTER HAVEN, their mountain retreat, for a long holiday weekend, they experience a near miss car crash. Lennie checks on the driver of the other car, and discovers JORDAN KINGSFORD, a beautiful, mysterious woman who has been knocked unconscious. Since Lennie was drinking at the time of the accident, he and Sara take Jordan on to Bitter Haven to tend her wounds, and hopefully avoid a lawsuit. Sara, who is past her writing deadline, buries herself in her work, leaving Jordan and Lennie alone for hours at a time. Jordan quickly sizes up the situation between her hosts, and sees a potential opportunity. Meanwhile, Lennie is under greater pressure than anyone knows as he attempts to extricate himself from being an illicit supplier of off-the-books opiates to ZEKE, the local garage mechanic, who moonlights as a drug dealer. Realizing that Sara is the one with all the money, Jordan sets about convincing Lennie to kill Sara for the insurance and the Estate, which totals in the millions. Jordan and Lennie hatch a scheme for the three of them to take a hike along a treacherous mountain trail where it would be easy for someone to have a "tragic accident". And then Zeke and his boys show up that same morning to, as they say, "clear things up". Everything comes to deadly climax in the mountains above BITTER HAVEN, because in a story like this, someone has to die.
