FOLLOW IN THE TIGERMAN'S FOOTSTEPS
By Colin Guest

GENRE: Other
LOGLINE:
  1. Inspired by a true story, an English construction worker laid off from his job in London, finds to support his family, has no choice but to accept a job in Tehran, where he has to manage a rowdy crew of British workers, life threatening situations and training the boss’s son.

SYNOPSIS:

“Follow in the Tigermans Footsteps,” covers 19 years of Colin’s life working as an expat on mainly high-class interior fit-out projects, including several palaces and a variety of five star hotels. This major section of his life covers his travelling to 15 countries in the Middle, Far East and North Africa, with his enjoying the kind of life most only dream. Readers will discover that by becoming an expat worker, there is much more to life than a boring 9-5 job.

The book covers each of the countries he worked in, and includes a variety of crazy, hilarious and some life threatening situations that occurred. e.g. Working in Iran during the revolution that led to the downfall of the Shah; Having a spoon thrust into his throat by a wild eyed man in Saudi Arabia, A near death occurrence while snorkelling in Qatar; Running through the jungle in Brunei on a hash run, Indonesia and Malaysia; Unbelievable adventures while on a Jash in Brunei; Acting for the first time in amateur dramatic shows; Visiting the fabulous city of Petra; and experiencing an earthquake in Manila.

All these incredible experiences gave Colin an insight to a variety of different cultures. It also enabled him the chance to work with, and understand people from other countries than my own. An added bonus being it allowed him to visit numerous exotic locations at little or no cost to myself.

The real start of his expat life occurred after loosing his job due to illness, which put him and his wife into serious financial difficulties. In view of this he decided to become an expat, with his joining a now defunct organisation named Expats International. It is largely thanks to them that his life was changed forever when he accepted a contract in Turkey. Although Expats International is no longer, there are similar organisations offering the same kind of assistance in obtaining work overseas.

His memoir is intended to show that even when your life seems useless, by thinking positive, you can get back on top.

Just remember these words. “The Impossible We Can Do, Miracles Take a Little Longer.”
