SYNOPSIS:

1940, Germany/Dutch border – Captured immediately after inserted in Germany, British office CAPTAIN PAYNE is tortured but reveals nothing of his mission. ADMIRAL PAYNE wonders how the psychic LADY HIGHTOWER is aware of this top-secret information, enlists her and her husband, LORD EVERTON, to help with freeing his son and other matters on British Intelligence’s agenda.

Seeing Nostradamus passage (III-57) predict WWII, MAGDA GOEBBELS shrewdly devises scheme for KARL ERNST KRAFFT, renowned Swiss Astrologer & Nostradamus expert, to alter ancient texts predicting a Nazi victory to influence neutral countries, later to manipulate French civilians in blocking their own military’s movements during the invasion of France. Krafft’s scheming Nazi handler, DR. HEINRICH FESEL, hires a seductress to ruin Krafft & his principled wife ELAINE to take credit of Krafft’s work and deliver Elaine to a high-ranking Nazi thug - GOVENOR GENERAL HANS FRANK - who desires her.

Stunned by the easy, early successes of the Wehrmacht, an opportunist Hungarian/German refugee LUDWIG VON WOHL convinces British Intelligence of the rumor Hitler employs a mystical advisor, so he may be hired to tell the British what astrological data Krafft supposedly is telling Hitler, and is assigned to the British ‘Black Ops’ panel. Analyzing how the Third Reich uses astrology and the occult, fellow panel member Lord Everton later exposed Von Wohl to be a fraud. Lord Everton and Lady Hightower perish when a V-1 flying bomb makes a direct hit on their mansion.

JOSEPH GOEBBELS’ secretary, BETTINA MEYER, is unaware her boyfriend, OTTO HUBER, and his colleague MAXI are British agents using Bettina as a steady stream of intelligence, although Otto’s feelings for Bettina become genuine. An innocent phone call intercepted by the Gestapo has Otto and Bettina arrested, while Maxi plans the escape for Captain Payne. Bettina is taken to Rüdersdorf, outside Berlin as a bargaining chip for two Gestapo lieutenants to blackmail Goebbels, who knowingly hid her Jewish ancestry. Maxi executes the Payne escape plan, only to find Otto in the prisoner transfer as well, however both Payne and Otto are killed in the escape.

Krafft works on trajectory for V-2’s, horoscopes of Montgomery & Patton, and finally calculates planetary motion for Die Glocke (The Nazi Bell). Elaine traces her husband’s relocations from one city to another unsuccessfully. Krafft, gravely ill, no longer useful to the Nazis, is sent to Buchenwald where he dies. Maxi gives old man a lift home, both duck into basement during an air raid and discover Bettina. Old friends reunited, Maxi & Bettina make their way to Czechoslovakia in the final months of the war. Elaine finds a group of anxious Hitler Youth on a road outside Wolfsburg, using the idea of family; she helps them decide whether they go west to the Americans or east to the Russians.
