Mark Opfer-Ruting

Hi, I am Mark, a 30 year old Amsterdam-based aspiring writer.
Why do I say aspiring? Because even though I have been writing for more then five years now (the only thing holding you back form writing is you not writing) I am not even close to making a living out of it.
In these years I have written a couple of theater-plays (none performed), written some short stories (sold one), countless of poems and one or two essays worth reading,.
I am following a four year programme at the Schrijversvakschool Amsterdam. At the vakschool there is a huge emphasis on the literary aspect of writing, which is neither automaticaly good or bad.
Besides writing I have travelled around. I have been in South-Africa, Australia, the United States, the Caribean and in the little know South American country of Suriname. Of course I have also seen a lot of Europe.
I am happily maried and live with my wife and four cats in a beautiful appartment in hip and coming Amsterdam-Noord. If you are ever in the neighborhood please feel free to drop me a line so that we can hook up!

At the moment I am working on a theater-play and an epic five part poem.
