SYNOPSIS:

Outline:

With its complex narrative, The Walking Wounded immerses viewers in the intertwined lives of four characters, making for a truly captivating and engrossing story. Immerse yourself in the gripping and dark tale of two seasoned detectives as they navigate the twisted maze of a child prostitution ring, surrounded by the eerie silence of the victims’ suffering and the lingering stench of corruption. The air crackles with tension as they step off into the mystery surrounding two separate homicides, apparently connected to two missing boys. With each step, the urgency intensifies as the lingering scent of desperation becomes more pronounced. Through their investigations, they not only uncover the truth about the crimes they’re investigating but also come to terms with their own personal demons.

Story Arc 1: Detective Phil Dobson and Detective Li “Turbo” Zhang are detectives with the Newcastle Homicide Squad. They are inseparable childhood friends, and an LGBTIQ+ love story for the ages.

Story Arc 2: Levi (13) and Noah (8) Holbert live in Dunedin New Zealand with their physically abusive mother. When Noah suggests moving to Australia, she inexplicably agrees and they arrive in Newcastle to start a new life. When a car accident kills their mother, the boys find themselves in the hands of a sexually abusive priest.

Story Arc 3: Ian “Iceman” Chase is the man that runs the racket. He suffered violence and sexual abuse at the hands of his father for ten years, and it has destroyed his humanity.

Story Arc 4: Davina “David” Jacoby (She/Her) is a trans female Social Worker. She is also a sexual abuse survivor and uses her pain to help others. As a child, she believed the abuse was actually normal behaviour and their favourite teacher used it to his advantage. The realisation that came in her teens almost destroyed her.

I think this is such a hugely important theme to explore. It's a horrible industry and not many people have the courage to shed light on it! I'd really love to see this on screen.

Really intriguing start, Andrew! I'd think about streamlining this a bit and I do think that the first half is both tidier and more compelling than the second. I also don't think that that you need any of the qualifications from "This uniquely Australian work..." and forward.

But! Super relevant and devastating subject matter, for sure!
