By Marci McGuinness

GENRE: Historical
LOGLINE:

Gone with the Wind at the Races, WWI...

Sea Biscuit in a Packard.

SYNOPSIS:

Orphaned mechanic Jack Rayson beats the Indy 500 champ in a 1915 hill climb. Coal barons bet Jack will die, but he builds America's fastest track with their money, fighting to keep the Universal Film Trophy races going through fatal wrecks, war, rain outs, mounting debt and lost love. Fearing bankruptcy, Jack takes the money and runs to Cuba only to return 18 years later for the showdown.

“To those who bet I would die in the race, this Speed King is here to disappoint you!”

In Speed Kings, coal baron hotelier, Gideon Steele sets up orphaned Jack Rayson as a dare devil race car driver. Gideon warns the wild Jack to steer clear of his visiting niece, silent film star Winnie Boyd, but the teens can not resist each other (1912). Three years later Winnie returns with her famous husband, retired Indy driver Ira Lewis. Winnie and Jack realize Gideon intercepted their earlier letters then set her up with Ira. Winnie and Ira promote Gideon's high rolling Uniontown Speedway, bringing in Universal Films to sponsor America's fastest track, where Jack is now president. Jack vies for Winnie when Ira goes off to war. They have one night of passion, but she stays with Ira. Jack lives high on fame and fortune, spends himself into a hole, and runs to Cuba with the speedway's money. When he returns home 18 years later, a showdown slams Jack face to face with the son he never knew he had.

Speed Kings is inspired by true stories to which I own the rights. I have written and published 36 books, many on historically true legends. I am the world expert on the Uniontown Speedway board track, an early auto proving ground sponsored by the Universal Film Company and the subject of two of my books.

I have access to cars and locations. Regional support is strong. I have several thousand online and racing industry contacts. There are over 75 million NASCAR fans!

I am an alumni of Hal Croasmun's ScreenwritingU Pro Series and the late Gary Shusett's Sherwood Oaks Film School.

If this concept intrigues you, I will speedily send you the script,
