When the producer of a struggling online show featuring a team of Black women urban explorers learns that one of her crew members has gone missing in an abandoned hospital known for mysterious disappearances, she assembles the rest of her team to perform a search and rescue in spite of a dark family secret that may put them all in danger.

SYNOPSIS:

Newly engaged Nneka Greene, 32, and her team of urban explorers have been producing an online documentary program uncovering lost stories and mysteries at long-abandoned buildings in the Baltimore metro region for the past three years. Nneka's Truth, as the show is called, has been Nneka's raison d'être, but hasn't garnered the attention it would need for her to be able to quit her soul-numbing job and produce full time. 

Just as Nneka decides she should probably get "realistic" about her career choices and settle down properly with her fiancé Elias, she learns of an abandoned asylum, "Sylvain Sanatorium for the Negro Insane," with a fascinating back story. In telling of her find to her grandmother who emerges from a state of dementia to tell her clearly that her maternal grandmother had been a patient, and eventual escapee from that very hospital. 

Astounded, Nneka digs deeper into the hospital's history - and in to her own. She learns not only that the hospital was - and still may be - a dangerous place, but that her grandmother's story checks out. But what she also learns is that her grandmother was accused of killing a white doctor as she escaped and had been wanted for murder. 

This new information, coupled with her personal story of being orphaned by a tragic act of violence as a child, nearly breaks her. But Nneka is forced to pull herself together when her best friend and co-producer Cherise calls to tell her their Location Advisor Hunter went to Sylvain to scope out potential shots for a new show and hasn't been heard from for hours. 

Nneka decides to perform a search and rescue mission, but when they arrive on the abandoned campus of the asylum, it is her connection to the hospital that seems to have lured them all there. Nneka would learn that she has been sought out as a debt that was promised and never paid.
