Ahab who is governor of the village, located in the Caucasus Mountains, by means of villagers, tries tries to kill A Big She-Bear. The little boy Vache with the family against murder of a bear. Opposition of people against to the nature becomes the reason for the ecological disaster.

SYNOPSIS:

In the Aragvi gorge of Phshavi (Georgia), a bear killed a hunter and his father Ahab is planning to kill that bear.

Twelve years ago, Ahab promised his beloved, pregnant Lela that he would leave his wife and marry her, but he did not keep his promise. Lela gave a birth to an illegitimate child, which was considered as a violation of the traditional moral code of the village. Due to this fact, the village has rejected Lela. Nobody talked to her or got close to her. Because of that, Lela committed a suicide after giving a birth to a child and the newborn baby was named Vache. He was raised by Lela's parents Elijah and Dali. They have also raised the bear that was domesticated by the village and which they did not wish to kill.

Some of the villagers think that Lela is not dead. They believe she turned into the bear and came back for a revenge and it cannot be killed, as it is guarded by the angel Monk Giorgi living in the sacred oak. The other villagers ridicule the fact of a woman turning into a bear, however, they still have doubts and are reluctant to go and kill it.

On the advice of a physicist teacher Baido, Ahab is trying to cut down the sacred oak in order to rally his villagers and lead them on to the bear hunt, but he fails to do so.

Ahab is forced to go to the bear hunt alone, which ends up with a failure - the bear mauls and buries him. Ahab barely survives.

After leaving the hospital, crippled Ahab is greeted by Baido, who was promoted to the club chief and who introduces a new collective bear hunting plan to Ahab. That plan will be further implemented and the captured bear will be chained to a club stage.

The film crew headed by a 50-year old director Ardalion arrives from Tbilisi on the invitation of Baido. When it is time to trial the bear, Vache shoots into the snow-covered mountain slope to cause the avalanche. Roaring down from the mountain, the avalanche buries the club and the village by half. Bear frees itself from the chains, strikes Ahab with a pow and kills him. Frightened people are running away from the club. In the end, Baido shoots bear, but only will wound her and the bear runs away in the wood...

Vache sees a dream of the God's hand, grabbing a bear by the tail and elevating it to the sky to turn it into seven stars – the constellation of The Big Dipper*.
