David B. Godin came up in the DIY school of production, and approaches his work with a visually striking, cinematic style that captures each subject with an honest, emotionally-engaged perspective. His docu-style, human-interest work blurs the lines between documentary and narrative filmmaking, focusing on the personal truths behind each character and story.
His debut narrative short, SEED, has screened across the United States. The film, about a young latino boy yearning to explore the rural Pennsylvania countryside, picked up a "Best Sound Design" award at the 2012 FirstGlance Philadelphia Film Festival and was an official selection at the 2013 San Diego Latino Film Festival.
His commercial and branded content work has screened in the United States, France, Southeast Asia and Japan. Most recently, his branded music spot, AT&T-WE NEED LOVE, won the first place prize at the 2014 MOFILM Cannes Lions Advertising Awards.
His music video work has been televised internationally. In 2012, his video for BBC’s “Sound of 2012” winner, Michael Kiwanuka, was named a finalist by Mr. Kiwanuka himself during a competition for his record, “Always Waiting.” Currently, his music video “Make The Change” for Japanese soul-music star, Nao Yoshioka, is airing on MTV Japan.
