SYNOPSIS:

Spencer, a novelist, drives for the summer to his uncle's vacation home in the tranquil small town of Chapps County. Located in the middle of a lavish environment with green rolling mountains and freshly sprouted meadows; so that he may complete his newest novel in a peaceful setting. Spencer begins to feel at home, at ease and at peace with himself. He's starting to feel good about himself and his future novel. He even thinks he may move there. When he arrives, he heads over to Lane's Hardware store, a crucial place later on in the story, in which glow sticks end up saving his life and other survivors of the horrible attack from a biological transfusion between an interstellar gem and a flock of mosquitoes. Spencer finds the owner of the hardware store, Lane, a very unusual country folk but a very amusing guy that he may end up using as one of his characters in his novel. Lane ends up being a crucial help when the survivors are stuck in the small plaza where nowhere to go. An underground tunnel located in his basement becomes the vantage point for one of their survival moments. Spencer falls for Stacey, a young straight out of college blonde, with an aspiration to get out of the small community and make something of herself. Her brother Morgan is very protective of her and knows better than to keep a guard on her, he just doesn't want the same thing to happen to her with her last boyfriend. Spencer falls for her right when he sees her, Stacey has that same feeling. The two end up meeting again at a community meeting in Center Plaza where the attack happens; ground zero. During the community meeting, Spencer and Stacey notice that a young boy, crying to his mother, has been plagued with large welts on his arms. Spencer realizes right off the bat that those lumps are really larvae hatching under the skin; a botfly infestation. Spencer provides help to the child by offering to take him to the local hospital, where another attack occurs, all due to the child's infested larvae that soon grow in size quickly. An insect mixed with human DNA. Thing is, there are six of those larvae growing on him and all six escape, all six replicated humanoid insects that appear like the child. While Spencer, Stacey, the child and his mother are safe at the hospital, an attack from a flock of over-ground insect-humans prey on the living searching for blood, to incubate future spawns. The local sheriff and his deputies try to stop the mayhem, while the military have their own problems and also the source of the problem. The only way to stop these creatures is by using the chemicals inside the glow sticks that are located in Lane's hardware, stored in his basement. The remaining survivors learn of the chemicals by accident, when Spencer accidentally breaks open on of the glow sticks and some of the liquid lands on one of the creatures. The chemical acts like acid. The survivors hang the sticks like grenades all around their bodies, when they make their way into an underground darkened tunnel. Another final attack occurs underground, where not only the survivors from the center plaza fight back, but a few remaining officers from the military base who've also found the underground tunnel.
