GRAY AND LOVER - THE HEARTH TALES INCIDENT
By JZ Murdock

GENRE: Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Horror
LOGLINE:

To acquire an ancient book of black magic, a hired Voodoo Priest contracts two extraordinary women to protect a horror novelist from his greedy, philandering wife who inadvertently pays for a "Wile E. Coyote"-type demon murderer through her own interference.

SYNOPSIS:

Gray and Lover: The Hearth Tales Incident Two women are contracted to protect a horror author from the occult book he possesses from being used against him. Afghan national Saleel uses dark magic to kill the terrorists who are ruining his country, ending with Osama Bin Laden. He then sends his occult book to his friend Bryce in America and is murdered by one of the demons he has released. Famous Horror writer Bryce O'Shaunnessy is an Irish ex-Patriot who has pretty much had it with his life. His wife Dawn has slept her way through many of his acquaintances; still he tries to be a good husband. Heading to Seattle with beautiful assistant Eva for an industry party, they spend an evening with old ex-Special Forces buddy Frank, a Billy Connolly type character, who is also a famous Horror writer, though not quite as rich or famous. Once they are gone, Dawn pays a voodoo Priest to conjure a Demon to kill Bryce. The Priest however has other plans. He just wants book, but can only get it if it is given to him. So he calls Gray and Lover, two demon fighting women who are into steampunk fashion (for good reason). Once conjured the demon sets off to kill Bryce. The trouble is, the ceremony was contaminated because of Dawn, leaving the Demon deranged and semi functional. A supernatural “Wylie E. Coyote”, if you will. This also makes it hard for the demon hunters to track him before he finds Bryce. Together once again the three friends spend the evening by the fireplace hearth getting high and having snacks and drinks. Each tells story apiece, while the demon tears up Seattle looking for Bryce. The demon terrorizes Seattle in multiple violent and somewhat comical ways. The situation increases in tension as death gets ever closer to either Bryce or the demon. An explosive showdown ensues with the help of the two demon hunters who show up at the last minute as Bryce and Frank fail to stop the demon. But the spell to stop it, sends it back to she who conjured it, Bryce’s wife. Due to a talisman the Voodoo Priest gave her, she doesn't die. Worse, gets sucked into the demon's plane of existence where they have to contend with some big ugly cat like creatures (seen in the beginning) who are the demon’s mortal enemies. And so, Bryce loses his murderous wife, ending up finally with the "right" girl. The demon hunters move on to yet another adventure. Please Note that this pair can easily lead to a sequel and an already considered franchise in a variety of formats. Also, the back story is also a part of my epic horror novel, Death of Heaven. Interesting note: One of the short tales (Poor Lord Ritchie) was chosen by actor Rutger Hauer in an international short story contest of his, and further back in time it was almost a one man stage show.
