SYNOPSIS:

-Genre: Dramedy, Sci-Fi -Name: Supernova -Setting: 1986, A small town in New Mexico -Protagonist: Mason Corbas (31), A singer and guitarist, living a rock and roll lifestyle. The most charming guy in any room, he has a killer wit and a way with women. He's had no real girlfriends and barely any ties to his family. He secretly craves more but continues to chase his dreams of stardom as his band makes a name for themselves on the Vegas scene. The Story: A mysterious man wakes up on his back in the middle of an empty desert highway, in the middle of the night. This mysterious man is Mason, the lead singer of the rock band Supernova. Supernova has been the resident band in a dive club in Vegas, not exactly the fanciest gig, but the ladies aren’t bad. As fate would have it Supernova was supposed to play their promising gig, for a hot music producer, the following week. After waking up the last thing Mason remembers is playing in the club - he has no memory of how he got here. He soon realizes he’s in his own personal hell- the small town he grew up in, Carter Flats. It’s sort of the bastard child of Roswell and after his parents divorced all Mason wanted to do was get out. He hasn’t been there in almost ten years, and wakes up suddenly there now?! He needs to call his band immediately. Remember, it’s 1986 and finding a working payphone in this town is a challenge unto itself. On his search for a phone Mason notices that the town is preparing for its annual "Extraterrestrial Day". Mason's search leads him to the one working phone, in the High School auditorium, where the annual Town Hall Meeting is happening. As the meeting gets going many concerned townspeople and ranchers want to discuss the “flying wings”, the triangle shape UFO’s that have been spotted around town recently. The Mayor tries to calm the conversation by pointing out that there hasn't been a credible abduction claims in twenty two years…and even that one was questionable. The Mayor's words put Mason in an uncomfortable sweat and he tries to discreetly exit. Before he can make it, someone recognizes him and exclaims to the entire assembly, "There’s the son of the abductee himself!" Ray was a failed musician known for his drunken antics (not exactly Mr. Trustworthy), yet his abduction story was believed by many (typically known as the “Alien Fanatics”). The fanatics in town wonder if Mason is being chosen to carry out an alien agenda to communicate with his family. Mason quickly laughs off these claims and leaves the assembly, but is almost immediately plagued with brief memories from the night before...what appears to be an abduction of some kind! Also at the Town Hall Meeting was Dusty, Ray’s old best friend. Once Ray told his story of abduction, Dusty never trusted him again. With mysterious Mason’s appearance at the meeting Dusty starts to keep a close watch on him. Mason’s sister Lydia gets word of Mason’s appearance and comes to pick him up. Mason stays with Lydia, a single mom raising her brilliant, yet awkward eight year old son, Brandon. The very public debate of whether Ray was abducted by aliens, or was responsible for a Convenient Store robbery in the next town over, left Mason estranged from his father and his hometown. After the meeting the group of fanatics pressure Mason to come to their next meeting, he is hesitant at first. Complicating things, Mason finds his attraction growing as he gets to know Dusty’s beautiful daughter Roberta, a college drop-out who came home to care for her sick mother. She was an Astronomy student and has her own fascination with aliens. Mason’s band Supernova discover where Mason is after calling Lydia’s house. Fearing Mason may have in fact had a bad drug trip, they decide it would be best to kidnap him, so he can perform at their upcoming show. As his “memories” become clearer to be scary, green aliens abducting him, Mason starts to believe he may be the “chosen one” to communicate with these aliens. Although Mason knows he should get back to Vegas for his band’s show, which a music producer is attending, he starts to think his true calling may be to help his hometown from possible alien invasion. Mason finally attends the fanatics’ meeting and begins to make a plan of how not only to communicate to these aliens but to get them to leave Carter Flats alone for good. When Supernova gets to Carter Flats they soon find Mason and start watching him from afar, trying to make sense of what has happened to him. Mason continues to dodge Dusty, with whom he’s had a few surprise visits from the last few days. After they spend the night together, Roberta shares the subject of her attempted thesis being “Human and Alien Communication Throughout History”. Mason remembers his father’s fascination with a certain chord on his guitar and how one night he told a young Mason it could be “heard around the world”. An inspired Mason starts to believe the fact that music is the key to communicating with the aliens. After convincing to fanatics they go on a hunt to find the biggest platform they can to get Mason’s music out. Their search leads them to a pirate radio station, operating on the outskirts of town, owned by a believer in extraterrestrials. The station also lies on the edge of a canyon where the majority of UFO sightings have taken place. Following his excursion to the station, Supernova becomes convinced Mason is playing with a new band without even telling them. Dusty also has followed the group to the station and after a gun-shot (which is one of the farmers accidentally shooting a record player) Dusty calls for back up. Now Mason must get his music out there before Dusty and his band Supernova can stop him. Mason does get to play his chords but he is soon arrested for breaking into the station and holding the DJ “hostage”. It would soon get out that the “flying wings” wereB2 Stealth Bombers being tested by the government in “AREA 51”. Mason’s bandmates also explained to Mason what happened to him that mysterious night in question, as he chugged whiskey with various pills, causing his blacked out state. Mason is left to choose if he now wants to go back to the life he’s been living in Vegas or stay in Carter Flats, the town he avoided his whole life, but where he's finally found his family and the love he wanted.
