TAKE IT LIKE A LAYMAN
By James Morelli-Green

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE: A psychologist, a recession, a job pulling pints; out of his depth and out of his mind!

SYNOPSIS:

Middle-class psychologist Jimmy Layman is suffering in the recession. To make things worse his few remaining patients are being poached by an unscrupulous head of Psychiatric Services. Feeling the squeeze, he reluctantly takes on a second job behind the bar of a working men’s club; a square peg in a round hole. Jimmy is quickly befriended by a couple of working-class regulars, Mel and Glyn, who join Jimmy in his reluctant re-acquaintance with a “normal” life which includes mummy issues, lock-ins, run-ins with a dodgy sperm trader, terrible karaoke, twenty-seven rides on a roller-coaster and some inappropriate mouth to mouth resuscitation! As Jimmy’s new life flourishes, we also share his frustration; he wants his life back, the life he “earned” with years of studying his way out of menial employment. His relationship with his wife, their oedipal son Lucas, and Mel and Glyn, becomes an entanglement of jeopardy and self-evaluation; out of his depth, out of his mind and trying to take it like a layman!
