ANGELA DE' ATH
By Anthony L Khan

GENRE: Action, Comedy, Fantasy
LOGLINE:

A time starved, young single mother dies, becoming Heaven's newest Angel of Death for eternity, while still trying to protect her son left on Earth.

SYNOPSIS:

Angela: young, single mother of adorable, three year old Jacob; aspiring feminist actor, tutored by demanding thespian, Herdman; ex-partner of the junkie, wannabe rock star and father to Jacob, Max. Her harassed life finds Angela one morning in a fatal car crash.

After this, Angela ‘awakes’ in the Afterlife. Somehow, it’s Herdman who welcomes her, settles her in. He gives her the irritating news that she’s also become Heaven’s newest Angel of Death – a Destroyer. Initially, understandably, she finds this abhorrent, but Herdman is on hand to coach her through, explaining her bloodline, bigging up the job. Training commences, and while Angela’s innate talent gets her so far, there’s still lots to learn. She’s provided with a familiar looking ‘Angel of Death Training Manual’, a sword, longbow, flattering outfit and, most importantly, a spectacular set of wings. She studies diligently, all the while longing for her baby boy back on Earth, who she casts a sneaky protective eye over. Angela learns the importance of the Axis Mundi: a gigantic Cedar Tree, it is the conduit between the three worlds; Heaven, Earth and Hell. She learns to fly, bend time, Angel hierarchy, weapon craft and combat skills. At last, her grim duties begin.

Angela’s first kill reveals an addictive, built in incentive: the ‘kill buzz’. Ambrosia compensates for zero sex – ever again. Still, Angela’s attention to Jacob leaves her falling behind. Herdman appoints old Uncle Frank, a seasoned reaper, as her unwanted mentor. Accomplished Frank takes her on, as a route to becoming Thanatos The Destroyer, Head of all Angels of Death. Angela has her own agenda. They bond. Frank shows her the biblical joys of being a Destroyer. Their kill buzz sessions are indulgently orgasmic. Angela tricks Frank into showing her the realm of the Archangels. He realises, turns on her, and Herdman turns on Frank. Angela and Frank are firmly reminded of the pecking order, and who’s in charge. Years and lives roll away as Angela gradually forgets her previous life. Then it happens. Angela’s next scroll of mortal collections contains her own son, Jacob, and Jacob is going to burn.

Distraught, Angela appeals to Archangel Michael, historically bound to help all children. He refuses, but points out that someone must take Jacob. She seems boxed in by the rules of the men around her. Herdman reminds her that Jacob is part of the bloodline to continue the supply of Angels of Death. She rebels, challenges Herdman, damns him! In his malice, Herdman reaches out to an old friend, Satan himself. Herdman tricks Angela into visiting the Axis Mundi as part of rescuing Jacob. There, Satan sends a revolting Beast to capture her. But Angela has trained, bolstered her natural abilities to outwit them all. She slays the Beast, only to be confronted by another horrendous creation. She tries her best. Herdman looks on as the 2nd Beast defeats Angela and begins dragging her, unconscious, back down to Hell. Frank has already been despatched by Herdman to collect Jacob, now a young man. Angela wakes on her descent to the Underworld, attacks the 2nd Beast and escapes. She intends to kill Herdman for his deceit, but some distant memory keeps her focused on saving Jacob. In the final battle, with unexpected sacrificial assistance from old boyfriend, Max, Frank is dealt Ultimate Death. Jacob is saved, but he’s still on the list. Angela realises, the only way for her to completely save Jacob is to take him herself, keeping her little boy by her side in Heaven, ‘For. Ever’.

Of course, there's a lot more to Angela's crazy heavenly adventures than the ones we see on screen...
