About Shenece

Mocha Blue Blaze was born Shenece Scott in Jonesboro, Louisiana on January 11, 1968. This country girl grew up with plenty of art around her in Winn Parish, Louisiana. Her mother sang in the church choir, her father a visual artist and craftsmen and her grandmothers made everything form soap to quilts. After listening to 'The Watts Prophets' a poetry group from Los Angeles, California at the age of 4 she knew she wanted to be a singer and poet. In elementary school she started writing songs and poetry and a book called “Lisa Turner's Interesting Machines”. In first grade she also started art classes where she learned many mediums of visual and craft based arts.
She would gather her sisters and cousins and make gifts and put together show productions for her parents and other adult relatives to celebrate Mother's Day, Father's Day, and other holidays. During her teenage years, she sang in various church choirs and was a member of Terry “Duke” Kimble's aka T.K. Soul, local group called The Time Zone Band. By the time she graduated high school, she had written over a hundred songs and poems. Ms. Blaze went on to college at the University Of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana where she majored in Vocal Music Education and Performance. Although singing and songwriting was still going on, Ms. Blaze worked at several different jobs over the years until she decided that her artistry would be what she would do to keep herself happy. So in the year 2000, she took on the stage name Mocha Blue Blaze and started her professional career as an artist, show producer & show promoter. Ms. Blaze has performed her original songs across the United States from Columbus, South Carolina; San Francisco, California; Atlanta, Georgia to Rochester, New York. Mocha is a singer/songwriter and she says her artistry is her ministry. Her intentions are to inspire people by giving thought provoking lyrics and melody. For the last 15 years Mocha has written 3 books, recorded her spoken word and several of her original songs.
She's produced shows with Russell Simmons' HBO Def Poets. She was Executive Producer of a national talent completion called Sing And Slam that enlisted poets and singer from California to the Carolinas. She's produced natural hair health and wellness events. She has a starring role in a movie called “Jack Bublick's Black Magic”.
Her song “Medicine Woman” is featured on “Women In Jazz South Florida 4th Compilation” CD. This compilation CD has won the prestigious award for “Best Jazz Recording 2014” at the Black Woman In Jazz And Fine Arts Awards. Her song Medicine Woman also has a music video that is featured on YouTube. Ms. Blaze is active in her community, encouraging awareness of the arts and the value of artistic expression in everyday life and she is currently working on a new CD.
