SYNOPSIS:
Jonathan Matheson is a beloved pastor of his first and only church, Mission Grove Community. He is a loving husband of twenty years to his college sweetheart, Angela. They have been blessed with three wonderful children: Christopher, 16, David, 13 and Grace, who is turning 9 as the story opens. Grace is the only girl in a long lineage of boys, making her a very special gift—all the more reason to feel for this family when she dies suddenly. The death of Grace appears to fall on the shoulders of Jonathan’s only sibling, Carter Matheson, a war vet who lives a broken life, shattered by three failed marriages and a propensity to drink too much. It’s during one of his “black outs” that Carter falls responsible for young Gracie’s untimely death. The story propels the family into a dark vortex, while challenging Pastor Matheson to stay true to his faith. Ultimately, this tragedy pulls at the fabric of family and begs to tear it apart. It’s up to Jonathan to steer the ship and keep the family on course while not allowing depression, anger and lack of forgiveness to cloud his vision.
