About Graham

For a couple of years I wrote for an ongoing drama series on BBC One TV "DOCTORS". Eventually I was fired for telling my new script editor where to get off when he refused to forward my latest story proposal to a producer.

It was a story about an 11 year old boy with a bedwetting problem. The script editor's objection was that he didn't believe the kid would react in the way I outlined. When on questioning he divulged that he was only 24 and had no experience of 11 year olds, and yet was unswayed by my being the father of four children (one who was and two who had been 11) and continued to refuse to forward the story to a producer, I lost my rag, called him "A fucking wanker" and slammed the phone down. Later his boss called me to say that in his opinion i was "too experienced to work on the show anymore". The coda to this sorry tale is that I wrote the idea as a short, it was made by a very fine commercials director titled WASHDAYS which went on to win Best Short Film at Rushes Soho, Silver at The Smalls, was nominated for a BIFA and won a Special Jury Award for the Screenplay at the Austin Film Festival. It was also Officially Selected at various other festivals including Palm Springs.

So now I'm footling around like a lot of people on here, writing spec's, teaching screenwriting, directing the occasional short, contemplating giving up writing but never managing to kick the habit, taking photographs which I exhibit occasionally (when a gallery has run out of other ideas). I'm a member of BAFTA (the British Academy) and was Chair of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain for 3 years. Oh and I'm open to offers (who isn't?).

Unique traits: I never fart in elevators.
