Mark Schimmel, Director

Mark Schimmel’s love of film started as an adolescent, when he would sneak into movie theatres, watching, studying and absorbing everything from silent films to movies from Hollywood’s Golden Age to studio blockbusters. Raised in an artistic family, Mark approached his love of movies from a design perspective and started drawing the famous faces he saw on the screen. While studying art at New York’s Pratt Institute, he was recruited by Walt Disney Productions and found himself drawing storyboards. Lured back to New York by Lintas Worldwide, he was able to take his first steps toward filmmaking Art Directing commercials for major brands including Diet Coke. As an “extracurricular” activity outside of his day job, Mark made his first movie, an 8mm production that received a Silver award from the Chicago International Film Festival, an auspicious start into filmmaking. Mark is a consummate storyteller, always digging deep to express the emotional content of the story. Areas of particular interest are healthcare, real people, music and any production that involves animals, a specialty that requires remarkable patience and a delicate touch, both of which he has developed, delighting in opportunities to work with four-legged actors.

"Geppetto's Secret" tells the heartwarming story of a group of time-traveling "magic tools" and their historic adventures. In this film, the tools are given the assignment to find and rescue the piece of magic wood that will later be carved into Pinocchio.
