Montaged footage of Saturday morning clientele vacating a crowded inner western Sydney train station platform then walking single file across a narrow footbridge to Sydney’s largest fruit and vegetable market is edited together with diagonally aligned glimpses of estranged neoclassical sculptures and urban utilitarian constructs.

Contradictions have been resolved and a rapport has been reached. A visual dialect has been invented. A proclamation has been made. An overfamiliar locale has told me how it must be filmed. I have approached it, and it in turn has obliged.

As the wave of demolition and construction continues its unrelenting sweep across Sydney, its population, wise to the shenanigans of politicians and developers, knows too well that this physical transformation is the measure of a society increasingly polarised racially, religiously and economically. To stake a claim in the midst of change is to seize fragments of and piece together moving imagery that responds to the visual clutter disseminated by a city in transmutation.
