About Kurt

Kurt Lancaster teaches digital filmmaking and documentary at Northern Arizona University. He is the author of DSLR Cinema, Production House Cinema, Cinema Raw, and Video Journalism for the Web.

His clients includes the Timpanogos Caves National Monument for the National Park Service; the American Community School in Amman, Jordan; Ha:san Preparatory and Leadership School in Tucson, Arizona for the National Institute of Health; the Pedras Mesa Demonstration Ranch in Arizona; Altez Ecofarm at Hasta Gard in Stockholm, Sweden; the Law of the Desert Born graphic novel promo for Louis L’Amour Enterprises, Inc; the Institute of Tribal Environmental Professionals at Northern Arizona University. He earned his PhD from NYU.

Kurt's students have gone on to create their own video production houses, worked as producers and cinematographers, as well as earning national and regional award winning films and promotional videos.

To Navajos, relocation means to disappear forever. In 1974, Congress passed a law that ended a land dispute between the Navajo and the Hopi tribes. The Navajo-Hopi Land Settlement Act caused the relocation of thousands of Navajos from their homes in Arizona. How have residents adapted to their new lives? In Part 1, June Benally recounts the heartache of leaving the home where she was born and starting over. In Part 2, residents of the New Lands protest the preponderance of liquor stores in their new community and try to force the closure of the stores. Lastly, Part 3, Navajo ranchers continue the tradition of raising livestock at a demonstration ranch in the New Lands.
